Exclusive Afro-Squad Interview - Randy West In August 1980 he posed as the centerfold model in Playgirl magazine. Later he also was cast as Robert Redford’s body double in the film Indecent Proposal. He has worked with numerous porn actresses early on in their careers, most notably Jenna Jameson and Tera Patrick. With such series as Up and Cummers (1-129), I Love Lesbians, Real Female Masturbation (and others), Randy West’s videos focused on "Real people having real sex - what a novel idea!" In one final video he stated that one of his greatest pleasures was watching his female partners have orgasms. Episodes had a fairly standard format: A short interview with the female performer to establish some background facts. Whether these were somewhat fictionalized or not, the chat established the young lady as an individual. Then came a succession of sex acts, each with the female performer an avid participant, including in almost every case, her orgasm. He is also listed at number 29 on the "List of Top 50 Porn Stars of All Time" by Adult Video News magazine. I heard you were in Playgirl. Is that true? If so, what was that like? I was the first guy to do a Playgirl centerfold with a hard c#)k. That was in 1980. It got a lot of buzz and as usual the government tried to block the sale but Playgirl went to court and won the right to put it out. I had a female photographer (Suze Randall) and her friends were watching so it was easy to get hard on the set. Weren’t you in indecent proposal? I body doubled for Robert Redford in the movie Indecent Proposal. Ashlynn Gere doubled for Demi Moore. Redford wasn’t there, but I met Demi. Very nice and actually kind of shy about nudity at the time. I met Woody Harrelson who was a cool dude and just wanted to smoke weed and play hoops. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to do either with him. What was your greatest accomplishment? My greatest accomplishment in the biz was being good at it and lasting so long (30 years) and being in every porn hall of fame there is. Second best was probably discovering Jenna Jameson and doing her first boy/girl scenes in Up and Cummers 10 and 11 and doing her only internal cum shot in Up and Cummers 11. I also did Tera Patrick’s only internal hot in Up and Cummers 73. Two incredibly sexy women who deserve their place in adult history. Can you tell us about your AVN Awards experiences? The AVN awards are fun. I hosted them in 1993 and 1994 and won many awards for my Up and Cummers series and individual scenes from my I Love Lesbians series and Real Female Masturbation series. What was it like being a star back in the golden era of the adult industry? Porn was definitely more natural and enjoyable in the 70s and 80s and probably more sexy and less freaky. We just wanted to get laid and make some money. Now a lot of people think they’re a star and have a lot more ego and do freaky things just to get attention or just for the money. More like a whore mentality. Same thing with the Viagra guys. There are still some good people in the biz but not the percentage we had in the old days. It was a smaller biz and we were more like a big incestuous family. Hey, things change and I guess there is more variety now so everyone can get their freak on. And I’m amazed at how many hot girls are in the biz now. We had 'em. Just not as many. We used to call it f' and run back in the old days cause it wasn’t legal to shoot adult and we had to try to get our shoots done before the cops showed up. Now it’s pretty much main stream, which is cool I also heard you were involved in the movie Indecent Proposal. Is that true? Can you tell us about that? There were so many hot girls that I worked with I can’t narrow it down to one for the best. Obviously Ginger Lynn, Christy Canyon, Nina Hartley, Jenna Jameson, Tera Patrick, Jenna Haze Ashlynn Gere, Heather Hunter, Tori Wells Racquel Darian, Savanah, Julia Anne,Dominique Simone, Lily Thai, Leanni Lei, Carmen Luvana, Raylene, Asia Carerra, Teri Weigel and many others would be on that list. What do you consider your greatest accomplishment in the adult industry? I helped launch the careers of Jenna Jameson, Tera Patrick, Carmen Luvana, Bella Donna, Taylor Rain, Aurora Snow, August, Ann Marie, Asia Carerra, Tawny Roberts, Leilani Lei, Roxanne Blaze, Vixxen, Taylor Moore, Felecia, Jordan McKnight, Crystal Knight, Nicole Lace, Midori, Shane Tyler, Leanni Lei, Dee, Sabrine Maui, Krystal Steal, Jenna Haze, Nakita Kash, Bobbi Eden, Lilly Thai and too many more to remember! Who do you consider the most under-rated girl you’ve worked with? The most under rated girl of all time to me is Roxanne Blaze. A beautiful 18 year old natural blonde girl who couldn’t wait to explore her teen age sexuality. Ron Jeremy and I started the same week in 1978. He told me he’d do whatever it took to be famous and he promoted himself from day one and achieved his goal. I was the opposite. I was a rock singer and hoped nobody noticed I was doing porn because it wasn’t cool or mainstream back then but I guess my secret eventually got out. To be as well known as I am without trying is still pretty amazing to me. Can you tell us about guys like Sean Michaels and Peter North? Peter North and Sean Michaels were quality guys and top performers. I used to be known as the gentleman star and Sean Michaels had a similar personality and since I was in the biz before him I called him the Black Randy West (with a much bigger unit of course) What do you think about Viagra? Viagra is to us what steroids are to sports. It’s cheating but it’s the way things are now. That’s why you see so many more guys now than in the old days when you either had the ability or you didn’t.
