Going on a Safari for the Soul!!!

We’d like to thank our homie “Soul Safari” for providing the fantastic “Blaxploitation” photos at the bottom right of our page. His pictures are pretty freaking awesome, and we recommend that you check out his Flickr page.
For the record though, we don’t necessarily endorse the term “Blaxploitation.” For those of you in the know, that term was used to describe some movies made in Hollywood in the 70s. Movies like Shaft, Dolemite, and The Mack were categorized as “Blaxploitation.” This is because some people said that they exploited blacks.
I tend to disagree. The movies were usually low budget, made to appeal to black audiences, and starred black actors as the heroes. However, they stereotyped actors of many races. The crooked white cops, the funky black pimps, and sexy (black and white) hoes were usualy included in the plot.
Many will argue that the movies were exploitative. Others will argue that they gave acting and directing roles to many up and coming actors. I just argue that the movies were fucking awesome.
